Electrical snafu's, leaking water faucets and a new washer/dryer!

This morning the new washer and dryer were supposed to arrive at the apartment, so Brad decided he would double-check that we had everything ready to go. So, Brad took the big plug for the washer and put it in the appropriate socket - to which there was a small explosion, sparks and then the whole apartment went dead. And, to add to the fun we hadn't tripped any of the breakers that we could see. Of course, this is about 10 minutes before the Lowes delivery men were supposed to arrive.

Luckily someone else in the apartment complex had called the maintenance man, so he was just down the street. He popped the main breaker and we were up and running once again. This is a definite down-side to home ownership - this "woopsie" was free, but in a few months we will have to pay for a repairman. Oh well!

Our beautiful new washer and dryer arrived, the dryer unscathed, the washer not quite so lucky. It had a big dent in the back, a scratch on the front and center and didn't have any of the stabilization bolts in the main compartment of the washer. They offered us 10% off the appliances, but I said no... I want a new one. So another one is supposed to be on the way.

While they were here, we did try and hook everything up, and it turns out both the hot water and cold water spigots leak terribly.  Now maintenance has to come back and work on that, and we are waiting on a new washer. How anti-climatic.

Here's a photo of them in the meantime:

And in other news, as promised, here is a photo of some of our samples. The linoleum is for the bathrooms and laundry room. The carpet is throughout the house. The copper color will be the main countertops and the white is for bathrooms and the island. The dark wood on top is the island and bathroom cabinet color, and there are BEAUTIFUL cream cabinets (but we had to return that sample already). Enjoy!

  1. Your whoops moment with the plug happened to us last weekend when we returned from out of town and went to plug in a lamp in the living room and BAM I killed all the lights & outlets in the front half of the house. We then spent the whole evening flipping breakers on and off to find out nothing. Electrician had to come out the next morning and do some major rewiring - yup and not a free repair anymore.
